Week #5 of the open water season (6/5-6/12)
Main lake water temp: 66-70
Water temp in the bays: 68
Walleye
Walleye are still being found on the shorelines. 3-10 FOW has been my target area during low light hours. Once the sun gets high, moving out to 10-15 FOW has helped keep the bite going. Wind blown points with deep water close by has been producing good numbers of fish. On super windy days casting the wind blown shorelines with your favorite crank bait has also been producing quality fish. Not as many bites, but good quality when you get them. A slip bobber and a leech is the go to set up right now!
Baits of choice in my boat: slip bobber and leech, small crank baits, and rattle traps.
Bass
Early June smallies can be found on almost any piece of structure. Look for isolated rock on a mud/sand bottom or a blown down tree to target fish. Cruising the banks with small crank boats and spinners is a great way to find fish as well. Weightless plastics worked very slow is a fantastic way to catch these big smallmouth. As always, the trusty bobber and leech is producing a lot of quality bass mixed in with the walleyes.
Baits of choice in my boat: Mepps spinners, small crankbaits and rattle traps, wacky rigged senkos.
Getting kids on fish and seeing them enjoy the outdoors is one of the best feelings!!!!
Check back in next Monday (6/19) to see next weeks fishing report!

Thank you very much. Rick, Joe, Jerry and myself are really looking forward to coming back to Lake Vermilion. I fell in love with the Edgewater the minute I saw it and I told the guys right away that I will be staying in that cabin next year. I told them that they could stay where ever they want, but I will be staying in cabin 2 @ Glenmore. They laughed.
